Bo5 Esports Correct Score: 3-0, 3-1 and 3-2 Odds From a Model
A model of the best-of-5 format shows the sweep is overrated for modest favourites, and map five arrives far more often than a big name suggests.

Model studyEvery number on this page is calculated from the rules of the sport and stated assumptions. These are not historical match results.
Bo5 correct-score markets are where I see the most autopilot betting. A familiar name is listed as favourite, and punters reach straight for the 3-0. This is a model study, not a record of past matches. It calculates how often each map score from 3-0 to 0-3 lands for a fixed map win chance, and what the fair odds would be. For match-by-match reads, see today's esports tips. This piece covers the maths underneath them.
The headline answer is that a 60% map-win favourite's likeliest score in this model is 3-1 at 25.9%, which is fair odds of 3.86. The 3-0 sits behind it at 21.6%. The sweep only becomes the single likeliest score somewhere between a 65% and 70% map win chance. At 60%, the series goes to a fifth map 34.6% of the time.
Period 1At a 60% map win chance, 3-1 beats the sweep
This bar chart takes one realistic edge, a team that wins 60% of maps, and shows every final score the model produces. The highlighted 3-1 at 25.9% is the tallest bar. The 3-0 comes next at 21.6%, with 3-2 close behind at 20.7%. The favourite's three winning scores sit much closer together than most people assume.
The underdog's side matters too. Their 2-3 near miss comes in at 13.8%, the 1-3 at 11.5% and the clean 0-3 at 6.4%. The 2-3 lands about twice as often as the 0-3.
View the data: every bo5 score at a 60% map win chance
| Model probability, favourite first | |
|---|---|
| 3-0 | 21.6% |
| 3-1 | 25.9% |
| 3-2 | 20.7% |
| 2-3 | 13.8% |
| 1-3 | 11.5% |
| 0-3 | 6.4% |
My takeaway: at this edge, the 3-1 is the only favourite score I would want to compare against a price before anything else. Combine the 3-2 and 2-3 and you reach the 34.6% chance of a deciding map, a number totals bettors should keep in mind.
Period 2The full map-score grid from coin flip to heavy favourite
The heatmap widens the view to every map win chance from 50% to 80%. At 50%, the four middle scores each sit at 18.8% and the two sweeps at 12.5%. Even matchups produce plenty of 3-1 and 3-2 results and fewer whitewashes than the hype around a final suggests.
Read down the 3-0 column and the colour deepens quickly. It goes from 16.6% at 55% to 34.3% at 70% and 51.2% at 80%. The underdog's columns fade just as fast, with the 0-3 dropping to 0.8% at 80%.

| 3-0 | 3-1 | 3-2 | 2-3 | 1-3 | 0-3 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50% map win | 12.5% | 18.8% | 18.8% | 18.8% | 18.8% | 12.5% |
| 55% map win | 16.6% | 22.5% | 20.2% | 16.5% | 15.0% | 9.1% |
| 60% map win | 21.6% | 25.9% | 20.7% | 13.8% | 11.5% | 6.4% |
| 65% map win | 27.5% | 28.8% | 20.2% | 10.9% | 8.4% | 4.3% |
| 70% map win | 34.3% | 30.9% | 18.5% | 7.9% | 5.7% | 2.7% |
| 75% map win | 42.2% | 31.6% | 15.8% | 5.3% | 3.5% | 1.6% |
| 80% map win | 51.2% | 30.7% | 12.3% | 3.1% | 1.9% | 0.8% |
The middle of the grid is where I spend my time. Between 55% and 65%, no score dominates, so a mispriced line is easier to spot there than at the extremes.
Period 33-0 overtakes 3-1 between 65% and 70%
These three lines track the favourite's winning scores as the edge grows. At 65%, the 3-1 still leads the 3-0 by 28.8% to 27.5%. By 70%, the order flips to 34.3% for the sweep against 30.9% for the 3-1. That crossover is the most useful single fact in the study.
The 3-2 line is the quiet one. It peaks around a 60% map win chance at 20.7%, then fades to 15.8% at 75% and 8.3% at 85%. At 85%, the 3-0 reaches 61.4%.
View the data: favourite 3-0, 3-1 and 3-2 as the edge grows
| 3-0 | 3-1 | 3-2 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50% | 12.5% | 18.8% | 18.8% |
| 55% | 16.6% | 22.5% | 20.2% |
| 60% | 21.6% | 25.9% | 20.7% |
| 65% | 27.5% | 28.8% | 20.2% |
| 70% | 34.3% | 30.9% | 18.5% |
| 75% | 42.2% | 31.6% | 15.8% |
| 80% | 51.2% | 30.7% | 12.3% |
| 85% | 61.4% | 27.6% | 8.3% |
Picking the right score here depends on whether you think a team wins closer to 65% or 70% of maps. That judgement rests on current form and roster context, not reputation.
Period 4Fair odds show where the sweep price gets short
The table converts every probability into fair odds with no bookmaker margin. At 60%, the 3-1 is fair at 3.86, against 4.63 for the 3-0 and 4.82 for the 3-2. At 70%, the sweep shortens to 2.92 while the 3-1 drifts to 3.24. The underdog's 2-3 lengthens from 7.23 to 12.60 across the same step.
The caveat is that this model treats each map as an independent event with a fixed chance. Real series don't work that way. Map vetoes, comfort picks, form swings and roster changes all shift the true figures, and a team's 60% on its own pick can be far lower on the opponent's.
| Map win | 3-0 | 3-1 | 3-2 | 2-3 | 1-3 | 0-3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50% | 8.00 | 5.33 | 5.33 | 5.33 | 5.33 | 8.00 |
| 55% | 6.01 | 4.45 | 4.95 | 6.05 | 6.65 | 10.97 |
| 60% | 4.63 | 3.86 | 4.82 | 7.23 | 8.68 | 15.62 |
| 65% | 3.64 | 3.47 | 4.95 | 9.20 | 11.96 | 23.32 |
| 70% | 2.92 | 3.24 | 5.40 | 12.60 | 17.64 | 37.04 |
| 75% | 2.37 | 3.16 | 6.32 | 18.96 | 28.44 | 64.00 |
| 80% | 1.95 | 3.26 | 8.14 | 32.55 | 52.08 | 125.00 |
I use these prices as a baseline, not a system. If a quoted price beats the model's fair odds after I have adjusted for the map pool, that is a reason to look closer. It never guarantees anything.
Full-time verdict
For a 60% map-win favourite, the model makes 3-1 the likeliest score at 25.9% against 21.6% for 3-0. Don't back the sweep just because the name is big.
The 3-0 only overtakes the 3-1 between a 65% and 70% map win chance. Decide which side of that line a team sits on before choosing a score.
At a 60% edge, the model sends the series to map five 34.6% of the time. Check whether the 3-2 at fair 4.82 or the 2-3 at fair 7.23 is being priced too long.
