Most Common Tennis Match Scores: 6-3 6-4 and the Top 12 Results
Across 101,421 best-of-3 tour matches, even the most common exact scoreline covers under 5% of results. These are the scores that come closest, and their fair prices.

Correct-score tennis betting looks simple. Pick the sets, pick the games, collect. In practice it is one of the thinnest markets in the sport, because a best-of-3 match can end in hundreds of ways. I wanted to know which exact scores actually turn up most often on the ATP and WTA tours, and what a fair price for each one looks like.
The headline answer is 6-3 6-4 on the ATP side and 6-3 6-2 on the WTA side. The first ends 4.5% of men's best-of-3 matches and the second ends 3.2% of women's matches. Every one of the top dozen results on both tours is a straight-sets win. I keep this study open alongside today's tennis tips as a reality check whenever a scoreline price catches my eye.
Period 1ATP results cluster around one break per set
This table covers 55,753 completed ATP best-of-3 matches. 6-3 6-4 leads with 2,502 matches, which gives fair odds of 22.28. 6-4 6-4 sits right behind it at 4.4%. After that there is a clear drop to 6-3 6-2 at 2.9%, and the rest of the list bunches up in a narrow band.
What stands out to me is how often tiebreaks appear. 7-6 6-4 ties with 6-4 6-2 at 2.8%, and 7-6 7-6 still makes the list at 2.1%, with fair odds of 48.35. That is the men's serve showing up in the data. On quicker courts, a set that goes to a breaker is routine rather than a sign of drama.
| # | Score | Matches | Share | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6-3 6-4 | 2,502 | 4.5% | 22.28 |
| 2 | 6-4 6-4 | 2,431 | 4.4% | 22.93 |
| 3 | 6-3 6-2 | 1,624 | 2.9% | 34.33 |
| 4 | 6-4 6-2 | 1,535 | 2.8% | 36.32 |
| 5 | 7-6 6-4 | 1,535 | 2.8% | 36.32 |
| 6 | 6-4 6-3 | 1,521 | 2.7% | 36.66 |
| 7 | 6-3 6-3 | 1,446 | 2.6% | 38.56 |
| 8 | 7-6 6-3 | 1,424 | 2.6% | 39.15 |
| 9 | 6-4 7-6 | 1,294 | 2.3% | 43.09 |
| 10 | 6-2 6-4 | 1,233 | 2.2% | 45.22 |
| 11 | 6-3 7-6 | 1,207 | 2.2% | 46.19 |
| 12 | 7-6 7-6 | 1,153 | 2.1% | 48.35 |
55,753 completed ATP best-of-3 matches.
Three-set results do not appear anywhere near the top. The most common one, 4-6 6-3 6-4, covers only 0.5% of ATP matches.
Period 2WTA scorelines are more lopsided and break-heavy
The women's table is built on 45,668 completed matches, and it reads very differently. 6-3 6-2 tops it at 3.2% with fair odds of 31.37. 6-3 6-4 follows at 3.1%, and then 6-3 6-3 at 2.9%. Bagel-adjacent scores such as 6-1 6-2, 6-2 6-1 and 6-3 6-1 fill the bottom of the list. Not one tiebreak set appears in the top dozen.
This fits what I see watching the women's tour. Serve holds are less secure, so sets swing on breaks rather than drifting to 6-6. 7-6 7-6 ends only 0.6% of WTA matches against 2.1% on the ATP, so the men finish that way more than three times as often.
| # | Score | Matches | Share | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6-3 6-2 | 1,456 | 3.2% | 31.37 |
| 2 | 6-3 6-4 | 1,394 | 3.1% | 32.76 |
| 3 | 6-3 6-3 | 1,326 | 2.9% | 34.44 |
| 4 | 6-4 6-4 | 1,296 | 2.8% | 35.24 |
| 5 | 6-2 6-2 | 1,288 | 2.8% | 35.46 |
| 6 | 6-4 6-2 | 1,246 | 2.7% | 36.65 |
| 7 | 6-4 6-3 | 1,199 | 2.6% | 38.09 |
| 8 | 6-2 6-3 | 1,162 | 2.5% | 39.30 |
| 9 | 6-2 6-4 | 1,107 | 2.4% | 41.25 |
| 10 | 6-1 6-2 | 970 | 2.1% | 47.08 |
| 11 | 6-2 6-1 | 953 | 2.1% | 47.92 |
| 12 | 6-3 6-1 | 951 | 2.1% | 48.02 |
45,668 completed WTA matches.
The most common WTA three-setter is again 4-6 6-3 6-4, at just 0.3%.
Period 3The top ten scores cover under a third
This chart answers the question every correct-score bettor should ask first: how spread out is the market? The single most likely score covers 4.5% of ATP matches and 3.2% of WTA matches. The ten most common results cover 29.7% and 27.2% respectively. Even the top 50 only reaches 66.3% for the ATP and 67.2% for the WTA.
The long tail is the real story. I counted 699 different exact results in ATP best-of-3 matches and 828 in the WTA. The women's game is more varied up front, but by the top 50 the two tours have roughly converged.
Distinct results seen: ATP 699, WTA 828.
View the data: how concentrated are exact scores?
| ATP best of 3 | WTA | |
|---|---|---|
| Top 1 | 4.5% | 3.2% |
| Top 5 | 17.3% | 14.8% |
| Top 10 | 29.7% | 27.2% |
| Top 20 | 46.3% | 43.8% |
| Top 50 | 66.3% | 67.2% |
My main caveat sits here. These shares are taken from the winner's side, so a bet on a named player to win 6-3 6-4 covers only half of that outcome. With shares this small, the fair odds for rarer scores are noisy, and this is a history of results, not a promise about the next match.
Period 4Players tend to close tighter in the second set
Bookmakers often price 6-3 6-4 and 6-4 6-3 as if they were mirror images. They are not. In 6,616 straight-set wins built from a 6-3 and a 6-4 set, the 6-4 came second 58.9% of the time. That gap is wide enough to matter on a market priced in the twenties and thirties.
The pattern does not hold everywhere, though. For a 6-2 and a 6-3 pairing, the closer set came second only 41.2% of the time. When a tiebreak set is involved, it arrived second 46.9% of the time across 4,018 matches. 6-1 6-4 against 6-4 6-1 is close to a coin flip at 51.1%.
Each bar compares the two orders of the same two set scores, e.g. 6-3 6-4 against 6-4 6-3.
View the data: does the order of the two sets matter?
| Both tours: share of straight-set wins with the closer set second | |
|---|---|
| 6-2 6-4 vs 6-4 6-2 | 45.7% |
| 6-3 6-4 vs 6-4 6-3 | 58.9% |
| 6-2 6-3 vs 6-3 6-2 | 41.2% |
| 6-4 7-6 vs 7-6 6-4 | 46.9% |
| 6-3 7-6 vs 7-6 6-3 | 45.7% |
| 6-1 6-4 vs 6-4 6-1 | 51.1% |
My reading is that a set lead loosens the trailing player's arm. Some of them fight back to 4-6, while others fold. The order matters, but by different amounts depending on the scoreline.
Full-time verdict
6-3 6-4 on the ATP is worth 22.28 at fair value, and 6-3 2 on the WTA is worth 31.37. Anything shorter than those prices means you are paying the margin before player quality even enters the picture.
Tiebreak scores belong in ATP thinking, where 7-6 7-6 ends 2.1% of matches. In the WTA it ends 0.6%, so lean towards break-heavy straight sets there.
When a 6-3 and a 6-4 combine, the 6-4 came second 58.9% of the time. Do not accept the same price for both orders.
